Services

What is your background?

Fine arts, performing arts, new media and digital arts as well as project management and coordinating.

How does the process work?

When you send an email, you will get a response within 48 business hours – although most are within 24 business hours. You will receive a questionnaire that will help determine what you’re looking for. From there we will set up a consultation if needed via phone or Skype. Within 24 business hours of that, you will receive a quote and contract for the project. Once signed and paid, your project begins.

The questionnaire and consultation are supremely important. They are the tools for you to express what you want and any concerns you may have. The more specific and clear you are, the better – and faster your end result will be. A strong consult session leads to a pain-free project experience.

How long will it take to make my site or design?

Depending on what is needed, expect a site to take anywhere from 2 to 16 weeks. Most websites will fall within 10-12 weeks. Graphic designs usually 2-4 weeks. Delays occur when the client is not clear on what he/she wants. We use the questionnaire and consultation to make sure we’re on the same page so please use those tools wisely.

I can go build my own site for free, why should I hire you?

You can absolutely build your own site and there are more and more options to do this. Sites like Wix, Weebly and Squarespace will allow free sites with limitations: you can’t have your own domain (eg: www.weebly.mydomain.com instead of www.mydomain.com) and they frequently advertise their platform on your site with their logo in the footer or a header banner. If that’s not a deal breaker for you, save yourself some money and start building. You will still need to design your own graphics if you want to make it stand out. Again, this is not impossible and all down to your own preferences. Choose WordPress if you can handle some basic coding and are good with graphic design (or willing to learn). If you are comfortable with the learning curve and have ample time to figure it all out, then it’s a good option. If you don’t have time, coding and digital arts are not your forte, or your site is too detailed then hand it over to someone who is. You’ll get a higher quality product in a shorter time with less stress.

How do I update my site after it’s done? What if I can’t make it work?

Our mantra is an empowered client is a happy and successful client.  The realities, speed and demands of the online business need you to be able to make changes and updates asap. Because of this, once your site build is complete, you will receive a document and video series showing you all the how/where/why’s of the back end of your site.  If you get confused or lost, we’re here for follow-up support.

I hear that if you allow a web designer to register your domain then they own your domain name. Some have refused to transfer ownership to the client. Is that true? Do you do that? Who owns my site when it’s done?

This does happen sometimes. It’s unethical and shouldn’t happen. We do not keep ownership of your website nor domain. Once your site is complete, the site contact information will be set to your name and email. It is strongly encouraged for you to reset your password. For payment plans, the website will not be transferred to you until the final payment is made. For payment plan information, see Payments. As for your domain and hosting, we never purchase either of these on your behalf. We expect clients to purchase their own domain and hosting independently. Relying on a web designer to do this for you can create ownership issues down the road. Legally whoever purchased the domain is the owner. Be sure to empower yourself and purchase you’re own domain. If you need recommendations or assistance, we’re here.

Do you do any SEO stuff?

A lot of designers will claim to be experts in this field and it may or may not be true. Further, a lot of individuals will act as experts, soliciting services that sometimes engage in what is actually illegal tactics that will get your site penalized if caught. That’s not to say that all SEO consultants are rubbish. There are legitimate people out there and in recent years there’s been a growth in more reputable SEO consultants. Neil Patel is an excellent resource. His site offers a lot of free tools and tips. Sign up to his newsletter. The truth of the matter is that a site can be designed for strong SEO capabilities but that’s just the beginning. It comes down to you or a hired SEO expert staying on top of it and generating good content. It’s like social media – there’s no secret formula. You have to be constant, specific and have something good to say. An outsourcing for SEO-based services only becomes useful when you have great content and a properly built site. All our sites are Search Engine Optimized but that’s only one step in a much bigger picture. Here’s some great articles to learn more:

Payment

How much will it cost?

This is like asking ‘how much will a car cost?’  It varies and depends on many factors. Every project will be different and expect very basic work will range from $500-1200. A good example of basic is here. Mid-range sites can cost anywhere between $1300-$8000. It’s an investment and for full site builds you’ll be required to make a deposit before the start of the project and a subsequent payment before the project is complete.

I don’t have a lot of money, can you work for free or at a discount?

Each year, a few slots are set aside for pro bono work, namely for grassroots NGOs. Aside from this pro bono work, I do not work for free or at a discount.

What methods of payment do you accept?

Payments can be made either via Transferwise or PayPal which accepts the major credit cards Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover as well as direct PayPal account and bank payments.

Do I need a PayPal account to purchase your services?

No, you are not required to have a PayPal account however, if you already have a PayPal account, you may use it as your payment method.

Do you have payment plans?

We provide payment plans for most larger projects. We require a retainer and then regularly scheduled weekly or bi-weekly payments extending over a period of no more than 3 months. Your contract will clearly outline your payment plan and terms of service.

What happens if I miss a payment?

Auto-payments are encouraged so as not to forget your billing date. If you miss a payment, your services will freeze. If the project is in process, it will not continue and no files nor content will be given to you. If a website is completed, it will be temporarily shut down with no access by the public nor you until payment is made.  Your contract will clearly outline your payment plan and terms of service including penalties for late or non-payment.

What is your refund policy?

We do not refund any services. We won’t promise anything we can’t do. The questionnaire followed by the free consultation is to help get a preliminary idea of what you want. That consultation period is your time to communicate all your thoughts about your project; how you want to be presented, any fears, any questions, anything at all. You need to feel comfortable and confident in working with us. This is your investment. Work doesn’t begin until both parties are clear on what we’re doing and an initial retainer is received. Endless hours are put into each project to generate a service for you and as such we will not offer a refund.
